Our Story

The Austrian Start-Up, VOLARE GmbH, based on the outskirts of Vienna, develops small and large disruptive vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft under the registered trademark APELEON. Founded in October 2017, we have been engineering demonstrators at various scales to test and evaluate the functionality and safety of our aircraft concepts. Now we are commercialising our electric cargo drone, while our long-term vision strives to disrupt air transport forever. Our engineering approach leverages the latest technology and creates solutions that thrive within the current regulatory frameworks, aviation industry and market conditions.

Our Team

Our team consists of experienced engineers with a strong background in the aerospace industry as well as young talents who recently completed their engineering degrees. This substantial engineering expertise combined with dynamic and creative spirit allows us to push towards radical innovation in the mobility sector. The team has several years of experience in the aviation industry under their belt – having worked on notable aircraft projects such as the Airbus A380, Eurocopter EC135 or even special projects like Solar Impulse. Together, we are shaping the future of mobility.

Founder & CEO

Our Founder

Andreas Fürlinger is founder and CEO of the company. He holds a university degree in mechanical engineering, a commercial pilot license and has spent a substantial number of years working in the aviation industry; giving him unique insights into the industry and the businesses behind it. He initially gained experience at IABG, advanced at FACC as analysis engineer for lightweight structures, worked on notable large transport aircraft projects, such as the Airbus A380. He later continued to support Solar Impulse as mission engineer on the First Round-The-World Solar Flight.

His passion for aerospace technology, the urge to realise his ideas and the joy he derives from tackling challenges drive him to push for innovation in the world of aviation.

THERESA RINNHOFER
Regulatory Affairs

Since she finished her aeronautical engineering study in 2014 she worked in the airworthiness office of Airbus Helicopters and Airborne Technologies. She managed many major certification projects in CS-23, CS-27 and CS-29, which serves as an excellent basis for her tasks at APELEON.

MARTIN FLEISCHMANN
Structural Mechanics

He holds a PHD degree in XXX of the Technical University of Vienna. Since then, he is working in the aviation industry and was the leader of the research and development department of the big Austrian supplier company FACC. With his master’s degree in aviation and his passion for manufacturing new parts he is perfectly qualified for his position at APELEON.
